What! I can't hear you, I have a popcorn seed in my ear!

Yes, it is true.  A few days ago, Johan told Kip that he put a "bean" in his ear.  Kip made a few attempts at getting it out and then decided we needed to call the doctor.  I headed to Southdale Pediatrics with Johan to have them take a look.  After several attempts and an unhappy Johan, they decided to send us to the ER.  While we were there, Johan was given some medicine to sedate him a bit and then they wrapped him up like a burrito and got to work.  Poor kid was kicking and pleading and crying and basically a sweaty mess.  On his fourth tool, the doctor popped it out and we learned that the bean was a popcorn seed.  Johan was pretty tired at this point (it was 11:00pm and he goes to bed at 7:00pm most days).  We headed home with a popcorn seed in a jar to show his siblings.  I don't think he'll be putting anything in his ear EVER again!  :)

The Z Family

I had a great time hanging out with my friend Andrea's nieces and nephews!  They have the most adorable girls and a sweet baby boy.  They were wearing clothes designed and sewn by Andrea (you can find her Etsy shop here).  My regular readers have seen a lot of her creations, but I'm so proud of my talented friend, it is fun to share!

i heart faces - week 21: yellow

anja.fav.VWcrop
We had a fun time with the theme at i heart faces this week. As I would drive from place to place, I'd keep an eye out for yellow things that could work for this theme. As I was driving to my parent's place, I noticed a VW yellow convertible bug and thought it would be really fun to get some photos. My dad asked his neighbor, if we could use it and she generously said "yes!" The kids even went on a short drive down the block and loved it! See other pictures from this bunch HERE.  It is a 1978 Volkswagen convertible slug bug.  Anyone remember that game?

Be sure to check out all of the other yellow photos on http://iheartfaces.blogspot.com this week. I love these color themes. So fun!

Yellow Bug

I took these pictures to try and get a picture for the "yellow" i heart faces contest.  My parent's neighbors were kind enough to let me use their 1978 VW Beetle convertible.  It was fun and the kids had a great time taking a short ride as well!

Longfellow T-ball

Gus had his first game with Longfellow t-ball.  They played against Brackett Park.  One of his preschool friends, Luca, is on the Brackett team.  So, the boys all had fun!

i heart faces - week 20: flowers and faces

The contest this week at i heart faces is flowers and faces.  I love spring and the beautiful flowers it brings!  Here is Anja in front of the tulips wearing her flower embellished gear!

Look for all of the other fun flower postings on http://iheartfaces.blogspot.com.

Inch by Inch, Row by Row

We put in a raised garden bed today.  Well, it is a work in progress, but we have it all framed up.  Now, we just need dirt and seeds/plants.  The kids were so helpful and excited about it.  The grass from the area is now being used as sod where we needed grass.

Hair-larious

Anja thought flying in the air was pretty fun!  We thought her fluffy hair was pretty crazy.

Mother's Day - A late post!

We had a very busy and very fun Mother's Day.  We went to church in the morning and Gus sang in the children's choir.  (Johan almost joined in this time...some day soon, I think.)  Then, we had a picnic lunch down by the Mississippi.  The Twins game was next and it was a great day for a game.  They won 6-0 and we got to head on to Target Field after the game for the boys to run the bases.  Gus slid into home and was scolded, but oh well!  He had fun.  Finally, we went out to dinner with my family at Famous Dave's.  It was a great day!

i heart faces - week 19: celebrating MOMS!

My sister and I share a hobby - photography.  We headed to the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis on Saturday to take photos indoors while it poured rain.  The Guthrie has a very interesting room with yellow windows, which is where I took this picture.  The background is the historic Stone Arch Bridge.  My sister and I each have 3 children, so it was a little crazy, but we still had fun.  The ages of our kids are 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 and 0 (well, 11 months).

My sister is an incredible mama to her three kids.  I love that she is reaching out to Zeke in this picture with her hands wide open.  He is getting close to walking and I know my sister is trying to enjoy every moment with her littlest!  Happy Mother's Day to all you moms out there!

UPDATE:  I won 2nd place with this photo!  Here's what the judges wrote about my picture:

More Itzi and Bitzi!

I had fun taking more pictures for my friend, Andrea.  She has added a bunch of clothes to her Etsy store, which you can find HERE (very soon anyway).  Andrea brought another little friend, Audrey, to join in the fun.

Googolplex and one

Googol - the digit one followed by 100 zeros or 10^100
Googolplex - 10 raised to the googol or 10^(10^100)

Johan's teacher told me a story about preschool today.  I believe the class was talking about numbers and Johan told his teacher that he knew a really big number was a googolplex (yes, he has math teachers for parents).  Anyway, the teacher also asked if anyone knew of a number bigger than a googolplex and Johan responded, "Googolplex and one."  That's our Yo-J!  :)

Kindergarten Registration

We headed to Dowling to register Gus for Kindergarten tonight.  We listened to various groups from the school, filled out paperwork, met other families, and even rode the bus.  Gus went to the Kindergarten classroom for a while with Ms. Kujat who has taught in the district for 30-some years.  Gus knew so many of the kids from Bethlehem, it really put him at ease.  I am thankful for the friendships he has developed there, which will make the transition to Kindergarten so much easier.  It is going to be a big change for our family to have a kid in school!  Gus in Kindergarten - it won't be long now!
